Bankmecu
Information by Research Trustfinance
Originally established in 1957 as the CSIRO Co-operative Credit Society, the institution grew through mergers with various credit unions, eventually becoming Members and Education Credit Union (mecu). In 2011, it became one of Australia's first mutual banks under the name Bankmecu. In 2015, the company rebranded to Bank Australia to better reflect its national presence and its commitment to using money as a force for good. As a customer-owned bank and a certified B Corporation, it reinvests profits for the benefit of its customers and the community, explicitly avoiding investments in industries that cause harm, such as fossil fuels, live animal exports, and weapons.
