Overview
African Trade Insurance Agency
Information by Research Trustfinance
Founded in 2001 by African states with the financial and technical support of the World Bank, the African Trade Insurance Agency (ATI) is a multilateral institution with a mandate to support trade and investment in Africa. ATI achieves this by offering a range of specialized insurance and financial products designed to mitigate risks associated with doing business on the continent. Its core services include political risk insurance (covering risks like expropriation, currency inconvertibility, and political violence), trade credit insurance (protecting against commercial non-payment by buyers), and surety bonds. By de-risking transactions, ATI helps to attract foreign direct investment, boost intra-African trade, and lower the cost of financing for projects across its member states.
