It operates as an authority under the Swedish parliament, the Riksdag, with a mandate to ensure a stable value for money and a secure financial system. Its primary responsibilities include conducting monetary policy, issuing Sweden's currency (the krona), managing the country's gold and foreign currency reserves, and overseeing the national payment system, RIX. The Riksbank is also actively researching and developing a potential central bank digital currency, the e-krona.
