The company emerged from the composition and restructuring of its predecessor, also named Stodir (formerly FL Group), which was a prominent investment firm that went into bankruptcy proceedings during the 2008-2011 Icelandic financial crisis. The current entity focuses on managing its portfolio of major holdings, which includes significant stakes in companies such as Síminn (telecom), Arion Bank, and Sjóvá (insurance).
