Patagon.com
Information by Research Trustfinance
Founded in 1997 by Wences Casares in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Patagon.com quickly became a symbol of the dot-com era in Latin America. It established itself as the region's first comprehensive online financial services portal, offering users the ability to trade stocks, manage investment funds, and access personal banking services. The company expanded rapidly, opening offices across Latin America, the US, and Europe. In a landmark deal in March 2000, the Spanish banking giant Banco Santander Central Hispano (now Banco Santander) acquired a 92.5% stake in Patagon for approximately $750 million. Following the acquisition, Patagon was integrated into Santander's global online banking operations and was eventually rebranded, ceasing to exist as an independent entity.
