The Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (MABS) Program was a developmental initiative implemented by Chemonics International with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Operating in the Philippines from 1997 to 2007, its primary mission was to promote financial inclusion by helping rural banks provide sustainable financial services to underserved microenterprises. MABS is widely recognized for its pioneering work in mobile banking, developing and implementing one of the first systems to use mobile phones for financial transactions, which significantly expanded the reach of banking services to remote and unbanked populations. The program provided technical assistance, training, and technology solutions to partner banks to help them effectively serve the microfinance market.
