Originally founded in 1991 as Accion New York, the organization later operated as Intersect Fund before rebranding to Ascendus in 2021. As a non-profit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), its mission is to empower low-to-moderate-income business owners, particularly from diverse backgrounds such as people of color, women, and immigrants, by providing access to capital and financial education. They offer a range of loan products and support services to help entrepreneurs launch, manage, and grow their businesses, thereby fostering economic development in the communities they serve.
