Wirecard Card Solutions Ltd. (WCSL) was the UK-based subsidiary of the German payments giant Wirecard AG. Operating as an authorised Electronic Money Institution regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), WCSL was a major player in the European fintech scene. It provided a wide range of services, including prepaid card issuing (acting as the regulated issuer for many popular fintech challenger banks and apps), payment processing, and merchant acquiring services. The company's operations ceased abruptly in 2020 following the catastrophic collapse of its parent company, Wirecard AG, due to a massive €1.9 billion accounting fraud scandal. The FCA suspended its license to protect consumer funds, and the company was subsequently placed into insolvency and is currently in liquidation.
