The Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken is a network of cooperative financial institutions operating under the "Volksbank" and "Raiffeisenbank" brands. Rooted in the 19th-century principles of self-help and mutual support established by Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen and Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch, the banks are owned by their members. The network's central organization, the Bundesverband der Deutschen Volksbanken und Raiffeisenbanken (BVR), represents the interests of the cooperative banking group at a national and international level. They offer a full suite of universal banking services, including retail banking, corporate financing, loans, investments, insurance, and real estate financing, with a strong focus on serving local communities and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Germany.
