Originally founded in 1995 as a non-profit Managed Care Organization (MCO) by the VCU Health System, Virginia Premier focused on serving the health needs of underserved populations across Virginia. The company provided a range of health insurance products, including Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace. In 2020, Virginia Premier was acquired by Sentara Healthcare and has since been fully integrated and rebranded into Sentara Health Plans, continuing its mission to improve health every day within the communities it serves.
