Originally founded in 1999 as United Bank Card (UBC) by Jared Isaacman, the company grew to become a major payment processor, notably through its Harbortouch brand which offered free point-of-sale (POS) systems. The company later rebranded to Harbortouch Payments and, after acquiring the payment gateway company Shift4 Corporation in 2017, rebranded again to Shift4 Payments. Today, Shift4 Payments provides a comprehensive commerce ecosystem that includes payment processing, POS software, e-commerce solutions, and business intelligence tools for clients in hospitality, retail, food and beverage, and other sectors.
