Founded in 2021 in Egypt by Abdelrahman Ezz, Underlie was an open banking platform-as-a-service provider. The company developed a unified API that enabled fintechs, developers, and other businesses to securely access customer financial data from various banks and initiate payments. In 2022, Underlie was acquired by the UAE-based open finance leader, Fintech Galaxy. The acquisition aimed to accelerate Fintech Galaxy's expansion in the MENA region, integrating Underlie's technology and talent into its flagship open finance platform, FINX.
