Originally established in 2008 as UK Financial Investments Limited (UKFI) to manage the UK government's shareholdings in banks bailed out during the financial crisis, the company has since evolved. In 2016, UKFI was merged with the Shareholder Executive and rebranded to UK Government Investments Limited (UKGI). Today, it is a government-owned company that provides expert corporate finance and governance advice to various government departments and manages the government's portfolio of interests in private sector companies, including major assets like the Post Office and Channel 4.
