Founded in 2011 by Jered Kenna, Tradehill was one of the world's first Bitcoin exchanges and the first to be based in the United States. It positioned itself as a premier platform for high-volume traders and institutional clients, differentiating itself through a focus on security and regulatory compliance. Despite early success and handling a significant portion of global Bitcoin trading volume, the company faced major operational and regulatory hurdles. It ceased operations in February 2012 after a dispute with its payment processor and the loss of its banking partner. The company briefly attempted to relaunch in 2013 but ultimately closed for good, marking it as a notable early casualty in the volatile history of cryptocurrency exchanges.
