Founded as Tompkins Trust Company in 1836 in Ithaca, New York, the bank has a long history of serving local communities. It is the banking subsidiary of Tompkins Financial Corporation (NYSE: TMP). In 2022, its four affiliated community banks (Tompkins Trust Company, Mahopac Bank, Bank of Castile, and VIST Bank) were consolidated and rebranded under the single name, Tompkins Community Bank, to create a more unified customer experience while maintaining its mission of community-focused banking and local decision-making.
