Established by an act of the 1943 Georgia General Assembly, the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) is a defined benefit retirement plan serving more than 275,000 active members and over 150,000 retirees and beneficiaries. Its mission is to provide a financially secure retirement for its members by prudently managing the system's assets and delivering benefits and services. TRS is one of the largest public retirement systems in the United States and is responsible for the investment and administration of the pension fund on behalf of Georgia's public school teachers, University System of Georgia employees, and certain other state-supported educational employees.
