Originally founded in 1998 as the asset management arm of Standard Life, Standard Life Investments grew to become one of the UK's largest asset management firms, known for its expertise in equities, fixed income, real estate, and multi-asset solutions. In 2017, it merged with Aberdeen Asset Management to form Standard Life Aberdeen plc. The company subsequently sold the "Standard Life" brand and its associated UK and European pensions and insurance businesses to Phoenix Group. In July 2021, Standard Life Aberdeen plc rebranded to abrdn plc to unify its various businesses under a single modern brand, now focusing exclusively on global investment and wealth management services.
