Founded in 1986, South Carolina Bank and Trust (SCBT) grew from a single office in Columbia to a prominent financial institution across the Carolinas and Georgia. The bank provided comprehensive personal, business, and wealth management services, focusing on community-based banking. In 2017, its parent holding company, SCBT Financial Corporation, announced a merger with Synovus Financial Corp. The merger was completed in early 2018, and all SCBT branches were officially rebranded as Synovus Bank. Former SCBT customers and services are now fully integrated into the Synovus banking network.
