Originally established in 2005 as SMERA Ratings Limited, it was a joint initiative by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and Dun & Bradstreet India (D&B) to cater to the credit rating needs of India's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. The company was rebranded to Acuité Ratings & Research Limited in 2018 to reflect its expanded scope beyond MSME ratings. It is registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and accredited by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as an External Credit Assessment Institution (ECAI) for BASEL-II norms, providing comprehensive rating services for bank loans and various debt instruments.
