Originally chartered in 1975 as Sioux Valley and McKennan Hospitals Employees Federal Credit Union, the institution rebranded as Service First Federal Credit Union in 1999. It operates as a not-for-profit financial cooperative, meaning its profits are returned to members in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and fewer fees. The credit union's mission is to provide sound financial services to its member-owners. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Minnehaha, Lincoln, McCook, or Turner counties in South Dakota.
