Founded in 2005 by Trevor Gordon, Sandlapper Capital Investments, LLC, along with its affiliated broker-dealer Sandlapper Securities, LLC, was a Greenville, South Carolina-based firm that sponsored and raised capital for alternative investment products, including non-traded real estate investment trusts (REITs) and other real estate ventures. The firm positioned itself as a provider of unique, income-producing investment opportunities outside of the traditional stock market. However, in 2016, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged the firm and its principal, Jack B. Ross (who acquired the firm in 2012), with orchestrating a fraudulent scheme. The SEC found that they misused investor funds and operated a Ponzi-like scheme, using new investor money to pay returns to earlier investors. The company was subsequently placed into receivership, its assets were frozen and liquidated, and its operations ceased.
