Quadriga Fintech Solutions
Information by Research TrustFinance
Founded in 2013 by Gerald Cotten and Michael Patryn, Quadriga Fintech Solutions operated the QuadrigaCX cryptocurrency exchange. It grew to become the largest crypto exchange in Canada, allowing users to trade Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum for Canadian dollars. The company's operations collapsed abruptly in early 2019 following the reported death of its CEO, Gerald Cotten, in December 2018. The company claimed it could not access C$250 million in funds owed to 115,000 customers because Cotten was the only person with the passwords to the offline cold wallets. Subsequent investigations revealed the company was a fraudulent enterprise and a Ponzi scheme.
