Originally chartered in 1956 to serve employees of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Waco, Texas, Pioneer Mutual Credit Union has since expanded to include over one hundred different employee groups. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, it is owned and controlled by its members. Its mission is to return profits to members through higher dividends on savings, lower interest rates on loans, and minimal fees, providing a full range of personal banking services including savings and checking accounts, various loan types, and credit cards.
