Pact Fitness
Information by Research Trustfinance
Originally launched in 2011 as GymPact, the company rebranded to Pact in 2014. Its core business was a mobile application designed to motivate users to live healthier lives through financial incentives. Users would make a weekly "pact" to exercise more or eat healthier and set a monetary stake (e.g., $5 per missed workout). Those who met their goals were paid a small cash reward, funded by the pool of money collected from users who did not meet their commitments. The service eventually shut down in 2017 following significant user complaints and a settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding improper billing and cancellation practices.
