Founded in 1982, Pacific Capital Bancorp was a community bank holding company headquartered in Santa Barbara, California. Its principal subsidiary was Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, which offered a full suite of commercial and retail banking services, including wealth management and trust services. After facing significant financial challenges following the 2008 financial crisis, the company received TARP funds and subsequently agreed to be acquired by UnionBanCal Corporation (the parent company of Union Bank) in a deal that closed in December 2012. All of its operations were absorbed into Union Bank.
