The Omni Foundation is a non-profit entity dedicated to the stewardship and development of the Omni Layer protocol. Originally launched as "Mastercoin" in 2013 following one of the first-ever Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), the protocol was a pioneering technology that enabled the creation and exchange of custom digital tokens and smart properties on top of the Bitcoin blockchain. The foundation's mission is to encourage and fund development, provide resources, and promote the adoption of the open-source Omni Layer technology, which famously served as the initial platform for the Tether (USDT) stablecoin.
