The National Empowerment Fund (NEF) is a development finance institution established by the National Empowerment Fund Act No. 105 of 1998 in South Africa. Its mandate is to promote and facilitate Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) by providing funding, mentorship, and business support services to Black entrepreneurs and businesses. The NEF aims to foster the development of a sustainable and inclusive economy by financing business acquisitions, expansions, and new ventures across various sectors, thereby increasing the participation of Black people in the economic mainstream.
