National Asset Reconstruction Company Limited (NARCL) was established as a strategic initiative by the Government of India and major public and private sector banks. Incorporated in July 2021, its primary mission is to clean up the balance sheets of commercial banks by acquiring their large, legacy stressed assets (NPAs) of over ₹500 crore each. NARCL works in tandem with the India Debt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL) to manage and resolve these assets, aiming to maximize value recovery through a coordinated approach. This structure is designed to aggregate and consolidate stressed debt, leading to a more efficient and faster resolution process for the benefit of the entire financial ecosystem.
