Founded in 2001, Mercury Payment Systems specialized in providing credit, debit, gift, and EBT card processing services that were integrated directly into point-of-sale (POS) systems. The company's mission was to offer secure and reliable payment solutions tailored for SMBs, working primarily through a network of POS developers and resellers. In May 2014, Mercury was acquired by Vantiv for $1.65 billion. Vantiv later acquired Worldpay Group plc in 2018 and rebranded as Worldpay, Inc. In 2019, Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) acquired Worldpay. The original Mercury brand and its services are now fully integrated into the "Worldpay from FIS" merchant solutions portfolio.
