Originally established in 1979 as Mercantil Commercebank, the institution served as the U.S. banking subsidiary of the Venezuelan company Mercantil Servicios Financieros. In 2018, the bank became an independent, U.S.-based entity, spun off from its parent company, and subsequently rebranded to Amerant Bank, N.A. Headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida, Amerant is a community-focused bank committed to providing financial services to individuals and businesses, with a strong presence in South Florida and Houston, Texas, as well as a focus on international clients.
