As an agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) is responsible for maintaining a safe and sound financial system. Its mission is to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth by promoting the safety and soundness of state-chartered financial institutions and by protecting the financial interests of the public through the enforcement of state laws. The DFI charters, licenses, and supervises a wide variety of financial institutions, including state-chartered banks, credit unions, mortgage companies, consumer loan companies, and securities firms.
