Chartered in 1953 as the Joplin Municipal Employees Credit Union, the institution was initially established to serve the city's employees and their families. Over the years, its field of membership expanded, and in 2002, it adopted the name Joplin Metro Credit Union to reflect its broader community focus. As a not-for-profit cooperative, its mission is to provide its members with affordable financial services, including savings and checking accounts, various loan products, and digital banking tools, while prioritizing member satisfaction over profit.
