Founded in 1985 and originally headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, Investment Centers of America, Inc. (ICA) operated as an independent broker-dealer. The firm specialized in providing comprehensive financial planning, investment, and insurance services, primarily through financial advisors located in community banks and credit unions across the United States. In 2017, LPL Financial acquired ICA, along with two other broker-dealers from Jackson National Life Insurance Company. Following the acquisition, ICA's advisors and operations were fully integrated into the LPL Financial platform, and the brand ceased to operate as a standalone entity.
