Founded in 1985, the International Development Exchange (IDEX) has a long history of identifying, evaluating, and supporting visionary local leaders and community-based organizations in developing countries. Its mission is to advance the rights to food, land, and water by providing flexible, long-term funding and advocacy support. In 2021, IDEX merged with Thousand Currents, another public foundation with a similar mission, to amplify their collective impact. The work of IDEX continues through programs like the IDEX Academy within the Thousand Currents organization.
