Founded in Medellín, Colombia in 1990, Interbolsa S.A. grew to become the dominant stock brokerage in the country, handling a significant portion of the daily trading volume on the Colombian Stock Exchange. The firm offered a wide range of financial services, including stock trading, asset management, and investment banking. However, in November 2012, the company collapsed spectacularly after it was discovered to be engaged in large-scale market manipulation and illicit repo operations, leading to a default. The Colombian government intervened, ordering its liquidation, which resulted in one of the most significant financial scandals in the country's history.
