Founded in 1961, Interbanca S.p.A. was a prominent Italian merchant bank focused on providing medium and long-term financing, advisory services, and private equity investments to corporate clients. Throughout its history, it was owned by several major financial groups, including Banco Santander and GE Capital. In November 2016, the bank was acquired by Banca IFIS, and the full merger and integration were completed in 2017. Following the merger, the Interbanca brand was retired, and its operations and assets were incorporated into the parent company, which later transformed into illimity Bank, a digital-first bank serving SMEs.
