Originally established as a non-profit health plan, HealthNow New York Inc. served as the parent company for BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and BlueShield of Northeastern New York. It has a long history as an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. In 2021, HealthNow New York Inc. completed an affiliation with Highmark Inc., a Pennsylvania-based health and wellness organization. As a result, the company was rebranded and now operates as Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York and Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York, continuing its mission to provide affordable and quality health insurance products to individuals, families, and businesses in its designated service areas.
