Funding Circle Deutschland GmbH was the German subsidiary of the UK-based global SME loans platform, Funding Circle. It operated as a peer-to-peer lending marketplace, enabling small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access business loans financed directly by a diverse pool of investors, including individuals and institutions. In September 2019, the parent company announced the decision to wind down its operations in continental Europe, including Germany and the Netherlands, to focus on its more profitable UK and US markets. As a result, Funding Circle Deutschland ceased originating new loans in March 2020 but continues to operate to manage and service its existing loan portfolio until all loans are repaid.
