Fundamo (Proprietary)
Information by Research Trustfinance
Founded in 1999 in Cape Town, South Africa, Fundamo was a pioneer in developing and supplying software for mobile financial services. The company's core product was an enterprise-level platform that enabled banks, mobile network operators, and other financial institutions to offer mobile banking, person-to-person payments, and mobile commerce services to their customers, with a particular focus on the unbanked and underbanked populations in developing countries. In June 2011, Visa Inc. acquired Fundamo for approximately $110 million to accelerate its mobile payment and financial inclusion strategies globally. Following the acquisition, Fundamo's technology and team were integrated into Visa's broader product offerings, and the company ceased to operate as an independent entity.
