The company's mission was to democratize investing by providing tools for individuals to create and manage diversified portfolios, known as "folios," which were customizable baskets of stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds. It was notable for its flat-fee subscription model, which contrasted with the per-trade commission structure common at the time. In May 2020, Goldman Sachs announced its acquisition of Folio Financial. The platform was subsequently integrated into the Goldman Sachs ecosystem, and the Folio Investing platform was officially closed to clients in September 2021.
