The Florida Department of Financial Services is a state executive department of Florida, headed by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Established in 2003, it was formed by the merger of the Department of Insurance, Treasury and State Fire Marshal with the Department of Banking and Finance. Its mission is to protect consumers, promote a safe and competitive financial marketplace, and manage the state's fiscal health. The department is composed of 13 divisions and several offices, including key areas like the Division of Consumer Services, the Division of Unclaimed Property, the Division of Insurance Fraud, and the State Fire Marshal. It also administratively houses the Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) and the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR), which are responsible for the direct supervision of financial institutions and insurance companies, respectively.
