Founded in 1910 as Southside Bank, the company grew to become Eastern Virginia Bankshares, Inc. (EVB), a community-focused bank holding company headquartered in Tappahannock, Virginia. For over a century, it provided a full range of banking services, including personal and business checking, savings accounts, and various loan products to customers across eastern and central Virginia. In 2017, Eastern Virginia Bankshares merged with Southern National Bancorp of Virginia, Inc., the parent company of Sonabank. The combined entity operated as Sonabank for several years before undergoing a major rebranding in 2021 to become Primis Financial Corp., with its banking subsidiary named Primis Bank.
