Edinburgh Investment Trust PLC
Information by Research TrustFinance
Founded in 1889, Edinburgh Investment Trust PLC was one of the UK's oldest investment trusts and was a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. Its primary objective was to achieve a high and growing dividend income alongside long-term capital growth for its shareholders by investing in a diversified portfolio of UK securities. Following a period of underperformance, the trust's board replaced its long-standing investment manager, Invesco, with Majedie Asset Management (later acquired by Liontrust) in 2020. In 2022, after a strategic review, the board concluded that a merger with the open-ended LF Majedie UK Equity Fund was in the best interests of shareholders. Consequently, the trust was wound up (placed into members' voluntary liquidation) and its assets were rolled over into the new fund.
