Founded in 1973, City National Bank of New Jersey (CNB of NJ) was a Newark-based, minority-owned and operated commercial bank dedicated to serving the urban community. As a designated Minority-owned Depository Institution (MDI) and a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), its mission was to provide banking services to individuals, small businesses, and non-profit organizations, with a focus on fostering economic growth in underserved areas. In November 2019, City National Bank of New Jersey was acquired by Industrial Bank, the oldest and largest African American-owned commercial bank in the United States, expanding Industrial Bank's footprint into the New Jersey market.
