Established in December 1974 by the Banking Law 1974 (and began operations on April 1, 1975), the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) is the main government body responsible for the Sultanate of Oman's monetary policy. Its primary mission is to maintain the stability of the Omani Rial, ensure monetary and financial stability in a deregulated and open market system, and foster a stable, efficient, and competitive financial sector. The CBO acts as the government's banker, manages the country's official foreign reserves, and supervises all licensed banks and financial institutions operating within the Sultanate.
