Celestia is the first modular blockchain network, designed to enable the next generation of scalable blockchain architectures. Instead of being a monolithic chain that handles all tasks (consensus, data availability, execution), Celestia specializes in ordering transactions and making the data available. This modular approach allows developers to easily deploy their own customizable blockchains (rollups) on top of Celestia, inheriting its security and data availability. The project was founded by Mustafa Al-Bassam, Ismail Khoffi, and John Adler, and its mainnet went live in October 2023. The core entity supporting the ecosystem is the Celestia Foundation.
