Catalunya Bank
Information by Research Trustfinance
Catalunya Banc, S.A., branded as CatalunyaCaixa, was formed in 2010 through the merger of three Catalan savings banks: Caixa Catalunya, Caixa Tarragona, and Caixa Manresa. This merger was part of a broader restructuring of the Spanish banking sector following the 2008 financial crisis. The bank offered a full range of financial and banking services to individuals, SMEs, and corporations, with a primary focus on the region of Catalonia. After facing significant financial difficulties, it was nationalized and received a substantial bailout from the Spanish government's Fund for Orderly Bank Restructuring (FROB). In 2014, it was acquired by Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), with the full operational and legal integration completed in the following years.
