Carlyle Capital
Information by Research TrustFinance
Established in 2006 and registered in Guernsey, Carlyle Capital Corporation (CCC) was a publicly traded investment fund listed on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange. It was managed by an affiliate of the global private equity firm, The Carlyle Group. The fund's strategy was to invest exclusively in U.S. government agency-guaranteed residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) with AAA-ratings, utilizing high levels of leverage (over 30-to-1) to generate high returns for shareholders. However, during the subprime mortgage crisis of 2007-2008, the value of these securities plummeted, leading to massive margin calls from its lenders which the company could not meet, ultimately forcing it into bankruptcy and liquidation in March 2008.
