Carbon Black
Information by Research TrustFinance
Originally founded as Bit9 in 2002, the company became Carbon Black after merging with a company of that name in 2014. It established itself as a leader in endpoint security, focusing on application control, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and next-generation antivirus (NGAV). After a successful IPO in 2018, Carbon Black was acquired by VMware in 2019 for $2.1 billion to become the core of VMware's security offerings. In late 2023, VMware itself was acquired by Broadcom. Today, VMware Carbon Black operates as a key product line within Broadcom's software portfolio, providing cloud-native endpoint and workload protection to secure organizations from advanced cyber threats.
