Founded in 1873 in Lugano, Switzerland, BSI SA (Banca della Svizzera Italiana) was one of Switzerland's oldest banking institutions. The bank focused on providing private banking and wealth management services to a global clientele of high-net-worth individuals. In 2016, following extensive investigations into its role in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) corruption and money laundering scandal, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) ordered the bank to be dissolved for serious breaches of its legal obligations. Its assets and operations were subsequently acquired and fully integrated into EFG International, effectively ceasing the BSI brand and legal entity.
